Preamble

Where it all begins

Connecting four thousanders in the Alps

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from Kilian Jornet, it’s that there are always new challenges to face. The constant pursuit of new goals, the creativity in approaching them, and the exploration of his own limits define him as an athlete, but they also play a crucial role in his activism and daily life.

This time, and after his experience last year in the Pyrenees, Kilian Jornet embarks on a new Alpine challenge with the desire to push his limits and discover how far he can go physically and mentally while linking as many 4,000-meter summits as possible through ridges using only human-powered means and local resources. The stage for his new adventure is none other than the Alps, a mountain range he aims to rediscover while staying true to his values: leaving no trace, embracing the purest Alpine style, and chaining hours upon hours of activity to make the most of this project.

“I’ve lived in the Alps for years and know them well, so I’m sure I’ll enjoy traversing these ridges, while facing the project’s challenges in every way”.

Exploring metabolic limits

Metabolic strain occurs when the body must redistribute energy to organs under high stress during physical activity. According to Dr. Jesús Álvarez, PhD in Biology, Kilian has an extraordinary capacity for metabolic resilience during long-duration exercises.

In previous evaluations of Kilian Jornet’s metabolic strain conducted by Dr. Jesús Álvarez, it was concluded that neither sleep deprivation, caloric restriction, nor cognitive decline have caused Kilian Jornet to fail from a metabolic perspective. However, Dr. Álvarez notes, “this new expedition is unlike any previous project. The demands on Kilian will be so extreme that we cannot predict the physiological or even genetic changes that may occur.” For his part, Kilian explains that last year’s journey in the Pyrenees led him to seek new challenges that push his physical, mental, and technical limits: “this project is a step above everything I’ve done so far.”

Tomir 2.0: Kilian’s Perfect Partner

Kilian has chosen the Tomir 2.0 as the shoe that will accompany him on this adventure. Cushioned and reinforced, it will be his great ally in the coming days as he faces highly variable and technical terrains.

Additionally, the moisture and varying conditions in the Alps necessitate a waterproof system that ensures sufficient protection, which is why Kilian has also chosen the NNormal Rain Jacket: a breathable and super-lightweight barrier that maximizes mobility in any activity.

Other essentials Kilian will use throughout the journey include the NNormal Active Jacket and the NNormal Merino T-Shirt, both excellent for temperature regulation in the Alpine conditions he will encounter. The new NNormal Tights, available this fall, will provide the ideal mobility and regulation during the long runs of this project.

Discover Tomir

“I believe the traction of the sole, the durability, and the cushioning of the Tomir 2.0 are everything I need for a journey like this.”
