Athlete / Running and writing for the planet
Damian Hall is one of the UK’s most respected and record-breaking ultrarunners. But his work doesn’t stop at the finish line. A passionate environmentalist, he brings grit, purpose and his personality to every mile.
Damian Hall raced his first half marathon at 36 years old. A year later, he ran his first full one – dressed as a toilet. Four years later, he represented Great Britain on their trail running team. Damian’s never been one to follow the usual path to greatness.
In less than a decade, the Brit carved out a space among the sport’s elite, placing 5th at UTMB, winning the Spine Race, and setting fastest known times for routes like the Pennine Way and Cape Wrath Trail.
But performance is just part of the picture.
“Running has changed my life,” Damian says. “My body, my work, my mission. We can’t run away from the climate crisis, but we can try to run towards a better way.” Damian runs not just to move fast, but as a medium to advocate for change.

Damian Hall
A coach, writer, activist, and father of two, Damian co-founded The Green Runners, a community pushing for more climate responsibility in sport, and Into Ultra, a project bringing underrepresented athletes into the world of trail running. He’s also the author of In It for the Long Run and We Can’t Run Away From This and a columnist for Runner’s World.
Three years from now? He sees himself “still being annoying[ly loud] about our climate and ecological emergency through running.”
Welcome to the NNormal team, Damian.
